Examples include welding fixtures, inspection fixtures, assembly fixtures, and machine tool fixtures. Machine tool fixtures are the most common and are often simply referred to as fixtures. When machining workpieces on a machine tool, to ensure that the workpiece surface meets the technical requirements specified in the drawing, such as dimensions, geometry, and positional accuracy relative to other surfaces, the workpiece must be properly mounted (positioned) and clamped (tightened) before machining.
