This distinction matters when a frame has an overhang. A clamp above an unsupported section can bend the part as it is tightened; placing support beneath that section gives the clamping force somewhere to act.

The fixture layout also affects the order of assembly. A pin that locates the first piece may obstruct the next one, or trap the completed frame. Leave a removal path when placing the stops. For an upright section, check access to the joint with the clamp closed, since an open handle gives a misleading picture of the available space.
