Corrosion-resistant cast iron surface - stays flat for decades under heavy use. This is a practical requirement for a cast iron welding table that stays in contact with spatter, dust, wet gloves, and steel parts every day. A protected surface helps slow rust around hole edges and scale marks. It also keeps fixture blocks seated more cleanly when a part is clamped for tack welding. Machined faces can be oiled for storage, while black nitriding can be selected when the shop needs a harder and darker working face.

Surface protection should be matched with a simple cleaning routine. Spatter should be removed after work, and the table should be dried before oil is applied. Operators should also keep pins and clamps clean because rust or burrs on accessories can damage the hole edge.

Good protection does not change the casting size or the hole system. It protects the working datum, so layout, clamping, and checking stay more reliable. For workshops that use the same table for frames, brackets, and repair parts, this small step reduces surface repair time and keeps the table ready for the next setup.

For long storage, the table should be covered after the surface is dry. Parts with coolant, rainwater, or cutting oil should not be left on the working face overnight. This habit keeps the hole grid cleaner and reduces extra polishing before the next fixture setup.
